End of the Year Wrap-Up: Playlists
I used to hate creating lists and didn't know where to start when making a playlist. Over the past year I've started making them with some of my favourite artists in mind and hopefully I'll create more in the future.
I finally got around to creating a top ten list of my favourite songs of all time. This was extremely difficult because picking a favourite song by an artist or band is hard enough as it is. Somehow I managed and this was the outcome:
- Somebody To Love by Queen
- My Brave Face by Paul McCartney
- Writer In The Sun by Donovan
- Brain Damage by Pink Floyd
- Dazed And Confused by Led Zeppelin
- Here, There And Everywhere by the Beatles
- Oh! You Pretty Things by David Bowie
- Beth by KISS
- Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood by the Animals
- The Masterplan by Oasis
The Beatles Fight Club:
After the Beatles broke up in the awful way that they did, they had plenty of insults to throw each other’s way musically. Paul more or less took most of the abuse from the other three as they felt he was more controlling near the latter half of their career.
- Run Of The Mill by George Harrison
- 3 Legs by Paul and Linda McCartney
- Early 1970 by Ringo Starr
- God by John Lennon
- Wah-Wah by George Harrison
- Dear Friend by Wings
- How Do You Sleep? by John Lennon
- Back Off Boogaloo by Ringo Starr
- Sue Me, Sue You Blues by George Harrison
- Too Many People by Paul and Linda McCartney
My friend and I have recently dove into Oasis’ catalogue and chose our favourites. At least one song from each album is represented as we wanted to give a wide variety of what Oasis really was.
- Columbia — Definitely Maybe
- Supersonic — Definitely Maybe
- Some Might Say — (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?
- Half The World Away — The Masterplan
- Sunday Morning Call — Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants
- Let There Be Love — Don’t Believe the Truth
- Little By Little — Heathen Chemistry
- She Is Love — Heathen Chemistry
- Stand By Me — Be Here Now
- I Hope, I Think, I Know — Be Here Now
- Stay Young — The Masterplan
- The Importance of Being Idle — Don’t Believe the Truth
- Falling Down — Dig Out Your Soul
- I’m Outta Time — Dig Out Your Soul
- Live Forever — Definitely Maybe
- The Masterplan — The Masterplan
- Don’t Look Back In Anger — (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?
- Champagne Supernova — (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?
Wings Basics:
The formation of Wings is one of Paul’s most underrated projects. Shining a light on some of their best songs only solidifies that they were better than given credit for.
- Venus And Mars
- Rock Show
- With A Little Luck
- Band On The Run
- Dear Friend
- Jet Silly Love Songs
- My Love
- Let Me Roll It
- Treat Her Gently - Lonely Old People
- Tomorrow
- Live And Let Die
- Mull Of Kintyre
Noel Gallagher Essentials:
Noel Gallagher has quickly become one of my favourite songwriters, so I knew with the release of his new album Who Built The Moon? that I needed to create a playlist of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds best.
- If I Had A Gun… — Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds
- AKA…What A Life — Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds
- Holy Mountain — Who Built The Moon?
- The Dying of the Light — Chasing Yesterday
- If Love Is The Law — Who Built The Moon?
- Everybody’s On The Run — Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds
- The Death Of You And Me — Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds
- She Taught Me How To Fly — Who Built The Moon?
- Lock All the Doors — Chasing Yesterday
- The Man Who Built The Moon — Who Built The Moon?
- Ballad of the Might I — Chasing Yesterday
- Dead In The Water - Live At RTÉ 2FM Studios, Dublin — Who Built The Moon?
Both Gallagher brothers released an album in the last quarter of the year. Only naturally I made a combined playlist of their best from each of their new albums.
- Wall Of Glass — As You Were
- Keep On Reaching — Who Built The Moon?

- You Better Run — As You Were
- She Taught Me How To Fly — Who Built The Moon?
- Come Back To Me — As You Were
- Holy Mountain — Who Built The Moon?

- For What It’s Worth — As You Were
- Greedy Soul — As You Were
- Dead In The Water - Live At RTÉ 2FM Studios, Dublin — Who Built The Moon?
